The Rightful Landowners JAC on Monday announced to go ahead with the blockade of National Highway-37 if Noney district administration fails to solve the issue concerning the “fraudulent withdrawal of compensation of NH-37 widening by an unknown committee" within three days' time.

The decision was taken in a meeting at Nungba sub divisional headquarters on Monday.

JAC co-convener Athui Kamei said the rightful landowners had a meeting with district administration Noney on Saturday in Imphal concerning the issue, but no solution was reached.

He said that compensation amount of approximately Rs 31 crore was fraudulently withdrawn by an "unknown committee" in collaboration with district administration Noney without the knowledge of the committee set up by the villagers.

He said the unknown committee who withdrew the compensation money is from the Nungba headquarters itself.

It is learnt that some innocent beneficiaries were allegedly forced to sign on blank APR, after which less than 50 per cent of the compensation amount of beneficiaries were deposited without any explanation.

Those few beneficiaries who were unaware of the amount deposited into their accounts also refused to claim the unknown deposit.

The JAC strongly appealed to the district administration Noney and state government to intervene, roll back the release of the money to DC’s account, after which the compensation amount is to be deposited directly to the respective rightful beneficiaries.

The JAC gave another three days' time for the district administration and state government to solve the problem starting from Monday or face the consequences.

The government and district administration Noney shall be held responsible for any untoward incident in the course of the blockade, stated the JAC.
