A father and daughter were among three killed and another five were critically injured in a major road mishap along the National Highway-2, Imphal-Moreh Road at around 3 pm Monday, sources said.
The incident took place in the vicinity of Sorojini oil pump near the Wangbal area under Thoubal Police Station, the sources said.
According to the police, the deceased were identified as Langhu Langhring, 43 and his daughter Ln Harsh, 19, residents of Sinadam village, Chandel district; and Maibam Nabakumar, 34, son of Surchandra of Salungpham, Thoubal district. They died on the spot.
Police report also stated that Langhu Langhring along with his daughter and son came driving a white Chevrolet Avero car (MN04A 4866) when the mishap took place. Langhu Langhring’s son Langhu Enric, 15, sustained serious injury in the incident. It is learnt that the three were returning back to Chandel from Imphal.
The third deceased from Salungpham came driving a red Alto K10 VXI with registration number MN06LA 1148. He was alone in the vehicle and was heading towards Thoubal when his Alto car flew above the median in the middle of the road and forcefully hit the Chevrolet Avero car. Nabakumar’s car again hit another Alto Car (MN04P 1625) coming from Thoubal side towards Sangaiyumpham. All the Four occupants from Sangaiyumpham travelling in the third car were injured.
Police also said that the Chevrolet car fell in a paddy field around 15 feet away from the road due to the impact of the hit. Thoubal Police Station has filed a case regarding the accident.
