M Manglenlal Haokip who filed a case against All Manipur Youth Protection Committee (AMYPCO) has clarified that he is not missing and he could not attend the hearing of Manipur Human Rights Commission as it was not communicated to him by either email, phone or post.
The Manipur Human Rights Commission had passed an ex- parte decision regarding a case registered filed by him against AMYPCO for branding all Kukis as illegal immigrants on March 15, 2023 edition of a local daily.
He said he received calls from the National Human Rights Commission to check his email in which everything is mentioned. Whereas, he could not view the status of his case through the link given in his email every time he was informed.
Haokip said he was not informed about any hearing date or summon through telephone or email or post.
He added he was planning on raising his grievances about his inability to check the status of his case but the order of the state commission made ex-parte headlines in the local newspapers, and it came as a surprise to him.
He clarified that he is prepared to prove prima facie the particulars of the case and prove all the allegations of defamation and incitement of communal hatred made and it is highly regretted that there was a communication gap with the National Human Rights Commission.
“If the accused apologise to all indigenous Kukis and are forgiven by the victims, I may withdraw my case”, said Manglenlal adding, but, if there is no apology, he would be compelled to approach the courts as advised by the National Human Rights Commission on charges of Criminal Defamation and Incitement of communal Hatred for which imprisonment and/or fine/disqualification from legislative post and candidature, etc. may be the penalty, for the sake of peace, love and sanity in Manipur.
It may be mentioned that he accused the chief minister of Manipur and some civil society organisations of Manipur for branding ‘Kuki as an illegal immigrant from Burma’, while filling the case before the Manipur Human Rights Commission.
