A resident of Khochijang village in Churachandpur district of Manipur, struck by poverty and struggling to support his wife and children, found a sustainable self-reliant livelihood in carpentry and has become a successful entrepreneur.
One Mangminlun Singsit of Khochijang village endured a lot of hardships to support his family. He, however, started working at a large carpentry workshop in town, earning a meagre amount of Rs 300 only per day. His life turned around when he was chosen as a carpentry beneficiary in the year 2018-19 and received a financial support of Rs 18,000.
The financial aid was provided to the carpentry beneficiary under the NERCORM Phase-III Project of NERCRMS, NEC, Ministry of Development of North-East Region.
Accordingly, Singsit purchased the necessary equipment for carpentry activity. The regular income from the carpentry activity gave him the opportunity to support his family and send his children to school for quality education.
"I am very grateful to the NaRMG for selecting me and will remain indebted to NERCORM Project for giving a ray of hope. I pray that the project continues its beautiful journey in our village.” Singsit said.
He later opened a modest carpentry shop and expanded his business. He plans to become a well-known carpenter not only in the village, but throughout the town. Besides the support of NaRMG, his sheer passion and commitment has made him a successful entrepreneur and a Master Trainer. (With inputs from PIB_Ministry of Development of North-East Region)
