Heroin powder worth around Rs 1.46 crore seized in Manipur, drug peddler arrested

The drug peddler was arrested during frisking and checking at Tribal Market, New Checkon around 2 pm on Sunday by three teams of narcotics cell, Imphal East.

Three teams of narcotics cell, Imphal East seized heroin powder worth around Rs 1,46,46,000 and arrested one drug peddler during frisking and checking at Tribal Market, New Checkon, Imphal East around 2 pm on Sunday.

The drugs peddler has been identified as one Kamlalmuan Vaiphei, 36, son of late Zamkhongul Vaiphei of M Molhoi Village, Churachandpur district.

The three teams assisted by Youth Athletic Development Association (YADA) under the supervision of superintendent of police, Imphal East conducted random frisking and checking in and around Tribal Market, New Checkon area.

During police activity, one unknown person carrying a black polythene bag was seen coming on foot from Tribal Market, New Checkon towards the road of Chassad Avenue. On seeing the team, the unknown person later identified as Kamlalmuan Vaiphei tried to escape; however, the team managed to detain him.

On examination and while opening the black polythene bag, 47 soap cases containing suspected heroin powder weighing about 733 grams (without soap cases) were detected. Police reported that the seized heroin powder would cost around Rs 1,46,46,000 in the international market value.

He was arrested in presence of an executive magistrate and witnesses.

The arrested person along with the seized item has been handed over to Porompat police station for further necessary action.
