Heroin powder seized, peddler arrested in Thoubal

As many as 50 soap cases filled with heroin powder weighing about 625 grams were found concealed underneath the body of a four wheeler, police sources said.

Narcotics and Affairs of Border (NAB) police station and Thoubal police on Monday arrested one drug peddler and seized 50 soap cases of heroin powder from his possession at Waithou, Thoubal district.

The arrested person has been identified as one Thangchinliana, 36, son of Khanthang resident of Phaicham Veng, Bidna Part II, Moreh in Tengnoupal district.

Police sources said that the 50 soap cases of heroin powder weighing about 625 grams were found concealed underneath the body of a white coloured four wheeler (Bolero, bearing registration number AS-12M/6578) which the accused was driving.

During preliminary investigation, it was revealed that the cartel members who are yet to be arrested are from Myanmar and other states of the country, thereby showing cross border and inter-state activities.

It also revealed that the seized drugs were brought from Myanmar at the behest of a Myanmar national, to be delivered to a person in Thoubal district and then to be further delivered to other parts of the country via Assam.

A case has been registered with NAB Police station further investigation is going on.
