Manipur Governor La Ganesan visited Noney district and reviewed various developmental works on Tuesday.
The governor interacted with district level officers, representatives of civil society organizations, village chiefs and people in the district and assured them all possible help.
La Ganesan also met family members of Marangching landslide victims and expressed deep sorrow and assured to support them, especially the orphans in their education.
Speaking at the interaction programme held at Multipurpose Hall, Longmai- III in the district headquarters, he said, whatever issues and problems raised by the people will be studied well and will ask the authorities including the chief minister to do the needful at the earliest in the larger interest of the people.
La Ganesan said that though Noney district will become one of the most developed districts in the state. It is a new district and therefore required infrastructure will be developed. Most importantly, Noney is now included in the country’s rail line, he added.
The governor further said that due to prompt action of the government and with the full cooperation of the people, COVID-19 pandemic is almost under control in the state. It was possible only due to the collective responsibility of both the government and people living in the state.
On TB elimination campaign, La Ganesan said, “As the Centre has already committed to eliminate TB by 2025, we all need to cooperate and contribute for the elimination of the disease.”
He stressed that a clean India campaign is equally important and the responsibility of all. It is a mass movement launched by the Government of India to make India, a clean India, and it was the dream of the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi, he said.
Cleanliness would keep everyone happy and healthy in all respects like physically, mentally and socially, he further said, appealing to the people of the district to maintain cleanliness.
Expressing concern over the increasing number of drug cases in the state, the governor said, some foreign forces are trying to ruin the people, especially the youth by smuggling drugs from across the border like Myanmar. “We should not succumb to the threat but fight the menace,” he said.
He further appealed to the people to cooperate with the State government’s effort to fight the drug menace.
He also visited the railway construction sites at Noney area, including the world’s highest pier rail bridge and inspected the ongoing works. He asked the railway officials to work as per the stipulated timing of completion.
He also visited the Battalion Headquarter of 107 Inf Bn (TA) 11 GR at Noney district and paid homage to the fallen soldiers of Tupul at the Unit Memorial on Tuesday, said a statement.
The commanding officer briefed the governor about the task being performed by the Gorkha Terriers in support of a mega project of national importance, it stated. He was highly appreciative of the yeoman service rendered by the unit without which the project would have remained a dream, it added.
Chairman, Hill Area Committee, D Gangmei also attended the interaction programme. Earlier, the governor was accorded a warm welcome by deputy commissioner Joseph Pauline Kamson and superintendent of Police Sandeep Gopal Das on his arrival at the Hall.
