Governor La Ganesan visits Pherzawl, inaugurates Unau Suopui Cultural festival

The governor inaugurated Unau Suopui Cultural Festival at Parbung Ground in Pherzawl district on Thursday.

Manipur Governor La Ganesan visited Pherzawl district and inaugurated Unau Suopui Cultural Festival at Parbung Ground and interacted with district level officers, representatives of civil society organisations, women leaders among others on Thursday. 

He listened to the issues and grievances raised by the people in the newly created district and assured to extend all possible help in the larger interest of the people. 

He expressed that it was gratifying to note that 26 Cultural Troupes including Aimol, Anal, Chiru, Hmar, Lamkang and many others were participating in the mega cultural festival. Although the communities originated from Ruong-Le-Vaisuo, popularly known as Tipaimukh, they have been found scattered in Manipur, Assam, Mizoram, Tripura, etc., he said.

However, these communities share similarities in their language, songs, dances, indigenous games and sports, he further said. He continued that these tribes have been harmoniously living together for the last more than four centuries. 

He stated that the cultural festival will certainly provide a platform to meet all the tribes who have already been settled down at different places of the Northeast. The festival symbolizes peace, harmony and unity rising above the barriers of caste, creed or religion, he added.  

Let the spirit of Ruong-Le-Vaisuo Unau Suopui Cultural Festival embrace one and all to strengthen the social fabric more than ever and bring prosperity to all the communities irrespective of caste, creed and religion in the state, he added.

He also unveiled a Monolith in the inaugural ceremony of the festival. Later interacting with the DLOs, CSOs, women Leaders and villagers at the Community Hall near Parbung Ground, governor said that the state government is doing its best in many sectors of development.

Although Pherzawl district has been lagging behind in comparison to other districts of the state, the government is committed to ensure all round development in the district, he added. 

Issues pertaining to healthcare, education, connectivity, banking etc. should be taken care of and all authorities concerned should also pay their attention for the welfare of the people, he mentioned. 

He further stated that the problem regarding shortage of manpower and infrastructure in the newly created district is a major issue, and he will ask the officials concerned to make necessary arrangements at the earliest. He assured the people that he will write to the departments concerned and also will ask the chief minister to take necessary steps in the best interest of the people of the district.

CSOs, women leaders submitted memorandums to the governor during the interaction programme. Earlier, governor was accorded a warm welcome on his arrival at the helipad at Pherzawl district headquarter by deputy commissioner, Pherzawl Huanlianlal Guite; SP, Pherzawl Ghanashyam Sharma; chairman, Core Committee of the Festival Dr L  Fimate, students and the villagers. Governor was accompanied by his secretary Waikhom Bobby in his visit.
