Manipur Governor Ganga Prasad, Chief Minister N Biren Singh and state ministers have extended Independence Day 2021 greetings to the people of the state.
This August 15, India celebrates the 75th Independence Day. India attained freedom from the British on August 15, 1947 and since, the people of India have been celebrating this great historical event every year as Independence Day.
“On this day, we remember our brave forefathers and pay homage to them which is our bounden duty. We the present generation must strive tirelessly so that the hard won freedom continues to take us to greater well being of all citizens of the country,” the governor said in his message to the people.
As India has made rapid strides on various fronts in the past few decades, new challenges have arisen, posing a threat to the very core of nationhood and there is, therefore, a need to strive even harder to overcome these challenges to ensure that India remains healthy and becomes a leader in the comity of nations, it stated.
“On this auspicious occasion, let us renew our pledge to protect the hard earned freedom and contribute for a better India where all are equal and no one goes hungry or gets victimised. I, once again, convey my best wishes to the people of Manipur on this auspicious occasion of Independence Day, 2021,” it added.
Chief Minister N Biren Singh also extended warm greetings and best wishes to the people of Manipur on the occasion of the 75th Independence Day.
“The day brings us the reminiscence of our great freedom fighters, who fought against British colonialism and gave us this hard-earned freedom. It is an occasion to value the sacrifices behind the emergence of a sovereign and free India and pay our profound respect and homage to the makers of our country,” his message stated.
Today, let the people renew the pledge to uphold and promote the spirit of nationhood, unity and integrity of the nation and to commit ourselves to fulfil the vision of the great leaders who dreamt of an Independent, Sovereign, Secular, Democratic and Republic India, it added.
“While celebrating the day, let us also not forget that we are still fighting a war to earn freedom from COVID-19 pandemic. As such, we need to take another collective pledge to defeat it by properly following the SoPs. Let us also honour the frontline warriors, who have been working hard day and night to liberate us from the clutches of the pandemic. I once again convey my best wishes to one and all on the occasion of our Independence Day,” it added.
Manipur Legislative Assembly Speaker Yumnam Khemchand also extended a message for the 75th Independence Day.
The Speaker stated, "On August 15, 1947, India got independence from 200 years of British rule in India. Now, India is celebrating the 75th Independence Day."
Many freedom fighters became martyrs and without the sacrifices, the country might not have enjoyed the freedom to choose the nation's destiny, he added.
"Today we pay tribute to those martyrs who had laid down their lives," the Speaker added.
Agriculture Minister O Lukhoi Singh also conveyed his best wishes and greetings to all the people of Manipur.
“As we commemorate the occasion, let us all remember all the bravehearts who stood strong against the British Raj for the nation's integrity and to attain the freedom we enjoy till today. I once again extend my best wishes to all on this Independence Day, 2021,” his stated.
Works Minister Th Biswajit Singh also extended his greetings to the people of the state. Independence Day is a day of remembrance as well as of dedication, he wrote.
Remembrance of all those great patriots whose sacrifices made it possible for us to enjoy the fruits of freedom and dedication to the noble ideals of truth, non-violence, peace, solidarity and brotherhood which inspired our national struggle for freedom, his message stated.
“This year, as we continue to battle COVID-19 pandemic, I urge all eligible people of Manipur to get vaccinated as vaccination is the only way to combat the pandemic. Let us, once again, pledge to contain the spread of the pandemic by adhering Covid appropriate behaviour and help in breaking the chain of infection. Wishing you all a Happy Independence Day,” it added.
