Manipur independent MLA Nishikant Sapam, while reaffirming his support to the BJP-led government in the state under the chief ministership of N Biren Singh, has suggested that the government should be proactive as complete lawlessness is seen sometimes in the state.
During a discussion programme broadcast on a national TV channel on Monday, the MLA from Keishamthong AC, objected to President’s Rule in the state terming it ‘Anti-Democracy’. Instead, the law-and-order has to be strong and if things are not working with the present method, one can change the method to bring peace and to overcome the trust deficit within both the communities by placing the right kind of people at the right time or wherever the trouble is so that peace is restored, he said.
He also mentioned that even when some Kuki brothers are demanding the CM of Manipur to step down, he, as an Independent MLA, supports the party and the government. However, it needs to be proactive as complete lawlessness is seen sometimes in the state, he added.
On Monday, Nishikant along with eight other Manipur MLAs submitted a five-point memorandum to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Despite most of the ministers and MLAs of Manipur stationed at New Delhi, seeking appointment to meet the prime minister, Modi left for the United States on Tuesday. During his visit, he will be attending Yoga Day celebration at the UN headquarters in New York.
