In view of police personnel involved in drug-related cases, Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Saturday warned that if any government employee was involved in drug cases, their service would be terminated and that they would be jailed too.

"Though we cannot immediately issue termination orders for those involved in drug-related cases, I assure that their termination and jail term will be compulsory after following the legal procedure," said Biren.

The chief minister lauded the initiatives and bold steps of the Kuki tribes of Saikul AC for being the first of the community to come forward to put immediate hold on poppy cultivation and support the war on drugs.

He also assured the people of the Saikul AC to give necessary assessment through the department of Horticulture and Tribal and Hills Affairs for alternative means of livelihood.

The commitment to support the war on drugs was taken during a public meeting of all the chiefs of Saikul AC on May 12 at Kuki Inpi Saikul Gamkai office under the chairmanship of Kuki Inpi, Saikul president Seimang Lupho.

During the meeting, it was also resolved that any individual or groups indulging in drug-related business will not be held responsible by the Kuki Inpi, Saikul for any legal action taken by the concerned authorities.

In regard to a memorandum submitted by the village chiefs, the chief minister assured them of constructing a mini-stadium and veterinary hospital in Saikul AC.

Regarding an appeal which seeks upgradation of the BDO and SDO office to Additional DC office in the memorandum, Biren said that he will do whatever possible to provide good administration.
