The Meetei Council Moreh on Tuesday has urged the government to exercise caution and sensitivity in making decisions, stating that the recent notification for compensation process is highly inappropriate in the current situation.
Expressing grief over the loss of lives and properties owing to the prevailing conflict, the council stated in a release that the recent notice, which stated to provide compensation on a category-wise and instalment basis, is illtimed. It has added more trauma to those who are coping with grief and loss of their loved ones, the council said.
Funeral rites are seen in almost every corner of the state, it said, and urged those concerned to be aware of the sensitive situation. It added that the innocents are paying the price of the conflict and maintained that one can never know the sufferings endured by the victims until they stand in their shoes.
It urged the government to reconsider the cabinet decision and stressed the need to carry out a deeper inspection to ascertain the damage caused by the conflict first and initiate necessary steps accordingly. It further expressed concern over the looming bleak future of the state and appealed to be sensitive to the present scenario.
