N Biren Singh on Sunday expressed immense gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP national president JP Nadda on being reappointed as legislative leader of BJP in Manipur and chief minister for the second term.
"Immensely grateful to Hon’ble PM Shri.@narendramodi Ji & Hon’ble National Party President Sh@JPNadda Ji for entrusting me to serve as the Leader of the Legislative Party. I thank each and every Karyakarta of@BJP4Manipur for their tireless efforts in bringing a BJP Govt today," Biren tweeted soon after his appointment as legislative leader of BJP in Manipur was announced by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.
In another tweet, Biren said: "Fulfilling the aspirations of the people of Manipur under PM Narendra Modi Ji’s mantra of Sabka Sath Sabka Vikas Sabka Viswas aur Sabka Prayas will be our top priority".
Biren was showered with congratulatory wishes by party leaders led by Sitharaman, wearing a traditional Manipuri phanek and chaddar.
"Congratulations to Shri@NBirenSingh ji for being re-appointed as the leader of @BJP4Manipur Legislative Party and continue as 'Meeyamgi' CM for a 2nd term. I am confident that the state will continue to make progress under your leadership and attain new heights of development," BJP president A Sharda Devi tweeted.
"Hearty Congratulations and best wishes to Shri@NBirenSingh ji, on being elected as the leader of the Legislative party for@BJP4Manipur," BJP national spokesperson Sambit Patra tweeted.
BJP leader Bhupendra Yadav, Union Minister for Environment, Forest & Climate Change; and Labour & Employment, also posted:
"I congratulate and extend my best wishes to Shri@NBirenSingh ji on being elected as the leader of the Legislative Party for@BJP4Manipur".
The Twitter handle of BJP in Manipur also posted a congratulatory note:
"Congratulations and best wishes to Shri@NBirenSingh on being elected as the leader of BJP Manipur Pradesh legislative party & the Chief Minister of Manipur".
The Manipur BJP won the recent 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly 2022 by securing 32 of the 60 assembly seats. Biren retained the Heingang assembly seat for the record fifth time, defeating his rival INC candidate P Sharatchandra by 18,271 votes. Of the 31,596 total votes recieved in the constituency, Biren bagged 24,814 votes (78.54 per cent), while Sharatchandra received 6,543 votes (20.71 per cent).
Biren also won the state Assembly election in 2017 and became the first BJP chief minister in the state.
