The Special Judge (PC) Act, Imphal West on Wednesday remanded former District Transport Officer of Senapati to six-day police custody till November 21 in connection with a case of violating the norms of Motor Vehicle Rules, 1989.
Former DTO, Wairok Thapa Maring (59), son of W Athang Maring of Kharou village, at present Heingang, Imphal East district, was arrested on November 9 by Imphal PS under section 468/471/34 IPC r/w 420 IPC & 13 PC Act.
It is submitted before the court that the name of the DTO has been disclosed by another accused who was arrested before and sent to jail for the offence of issuing RC Books and re-registration of vehicles in collusion with the then DTO Senapati and transport officials. They disclosed that they had collected huge money from time to time from different individuals for re-registration of unauthentic or stolen vehicles outside the state of Manipur bought from authentic and then defrauded many individuals by selling those vehicles as original ones.
The accused person, Laishram Boi, who is judicial custody and Ngangom Bangkim, who was released on bail, also bribed the transport officials including the then DTO, Thapa in the name of the unauthentic re-registration of vehicles and also got commission/money from those transport officials during the transaction.
It is also submitted before the court that Wairok Thapa, the then DTO of Senapati, in connivance with his son and other agents, allegedly issued various RC books or re-registered various old vehicles by violating the norms under Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989.
The police prayed for custodial interrogation of the former DTO for proper investigation of the case for six days.
The court after hearing the submission remanded him into police custody.
