RV Mingthing, former Manipur State Congress (MSCP) minister from Ukhrul, passed away in the intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday at his Lamphel residence in Imphal after suffering from cardiac arrest. He was 92.
Born on April 20, 1931, the Tangkhul Naga political veteran from Kuirei village, Ukhrul district, breathed his last at 92 following a sudden cardiac arrest, according to his family members.
The condolence and funeral service of late Mingthing will be held on Wednesday as some of the family members staying outside the state are to return. He will then be laid to rest at the Lanthung Ching Cemetery at Langol in Imphal West.
Prominent personalities such as minister Khashim Vashum; former deputy speaker MK Preshow Shimray; IGP IK Muivah among others were witnessed visiting the departed family members and expressing their condolence.
Late RV Mingthing served as president, Manipur State Congress (MSCP) from 2004-2007.
He contested elections from Chingai constituency and served as minister of state for Tribal Affairs and Sports from 1989 to 1990.
Mingthing also served as chairman, Hill Area Committee of the Manipur Legislative Assembly in the year 1985-1989.
He held the post of chairman, Autonomous District Council of Ukhrul district, Manipur for three years i.e., from 1975 to 1978.
Mingthang was the founder member of the United Naga Council and the Lui-Ngai-Ni Festival of the Naga communities in Manipur.
The Tangkhul political leader also served as president, Tangkhul Naga Long from 1981-1983, vice-president, Senior Citizen for Society, Manipur, vice=president, Manipur State Scout Union and advisor, All Manipur Student Guardian Association.
It is worth mentioning that late Mingthang was one of the political leaders who contributed immensely in strengthening the brotherhood bonds between the people of hills and valleys.
