The Federation of Civil Society Organisations (FOCS), Manipur, on Thursday urged to put into action the Union Home Minister’s statement to scrap the Free Movement Regime (FMR) from the Northeast states sharing boundary with Myanmar at the earliest.

FOCS, in a release, asserted that scrapping FMR from Manipur will not only safeguard the people, their possessions but also ward off threats against India’s security and Indian territory.

It also expressed grave concern on the unabated terror attacks by illegal Chin-Kuki terrorists against state forces in border town Moreh. It pointed out that many state forces including an SDPO have been killed in such heinous attacks.

The same is an attempt by the illegal chin-kuki immigrants to drive out the indigenous people from Moreh town and set up their domain, thereby forming a separate land for the Kukis. It asserted that such an attempt is a threat to India’s territory and urged the Ministry of Home Affairs to evict the illegal immigrants and deport them back to Myanmar without further delay.

It also mentioned the notice issued by an armed chin-kuki terrorist organisation on Tuesday under pretence as village volunteers to the shops at Moreh town against giving/selling essentials to the State forces from February 3. Such an act indicates that there is no law in Moreh, FOCS stated.

Peace can be restored in Moreh only after eviction of illegal immigrants, it maintained and further demanded the state government to ensure additional power to the state forces at Moreh to restore law and order in the town.
