Farmers of Kshetrigao in Imphal East are urged to cooperate and participate in saving paddy land and wetlands in Manipur during a farmers meet held at Kshetri Awang Leikai, Imphal East on Sunday.
"Farmers’ participation is the key to effective implementation of the Manipur Conservation of Paddy Land and Wetland Act to safeguard the paddy land and wetlands in the state," said Kshetrigao MLA Sheikh Noorul Hassan, while speaking at the ‘Kshetrigao Farmers Meet’.
During the meet, organised by the office of the Kshetrigao MLA, the MLA discussed with the farmers on bringing a green revolution in Kshetrigao by ways of introducing multiple cropping and integrated farming vastly.

Concerning the conversion of many paddy lands of the constitution into farmhouses, the MLA called on the farmers to give their firm stand and dedication to save the paddy land and produce a good amount of crops and vegetables.
Hassan said that as the majority of the population of the constituency are farmers, the meet was organised with the objective to discuss how to generate employment and make a self-sustainable constituency.
In this regard, a pilot project will be taken up as a work programme at Chanam Loukol, Gurupat Loukol and Yaral Loukol to bring a green revolution in the assembly constituency by 2024, he announced. He said similar projects will also be taken up in the remaining loukol (paddy land) of the constituency in a phase wise manner.
The MLA mentioned that the state government under the initiative of Chief Minister N Biren has taken up various initiatives for the welfare of the farmers, he assured to take up every possible initiative for the welfare of the farmers of the constituency.
“Please work hard and cooperate in the welfare activities taken up by the government,” the MLA appealed to the farmers, saying farmers of the constituency will no longer face the issue of shortage of fertilisers.
The MLA also informed that he along with the department officials had inspected the dam constructed at the Naharup Thongjil in Imphal East. The dam will be made fully functional soon, he added.
