A public meeting on ‘Immediate need for exclusion of illegal immigrant Kukis from scheduled tribe list’ was held at Langathel Keithel Macha, Thoubal district on Thursday.
People who spoke during the meeting organised by Meitei Leepul in association with Khongjom Circle Apunba Lup gave the observation that the exclusion of illegal immigrants from ST list is relevant. They also discussed the Constitution’s provision to exclude illegal immigrants from the ST list.
Speaking at the meeting, Meitei Leepul Chief Mayengbam Pramotchand said that a community should be a native of the state for inclusion in the ST list.
Khongjom Circle Apunba Lup president Mutum Nirmala Leima said that intellectuals from across India including Manipur have expressed the idea of excluding illegal immigrants from ST list. People who attended the meeting chanted various slogans.
