Encroachers ordered to restore agricultural lands in Imphal East

Encroachers and offenders in Imphal East have been directed to restore all agricultural lands which have been diverted for non-agricultural purposes to its original form by 3 pm of June 27.

Deputy Commissioner, Imphal East, Khumanthem Diana Devi on Friday directed encroachers and offenders to restore all agricultural lands which have been diverted for non-agricultural purposes to its original form by 3 pm of June 27.

An order issued by the DC on Friday further directed to remove all unauthorized structures along the National Highways/State Highways/Inter-District Roads and other roads along the river banks in the Imphal East District by 3 pm of June 27.

Stringent actions would be initiated to all the individuals who defy district administration order and the offenders and encroachers concerned shall bear all the cost for such restoration or removal of structures, it stated. 

Various reports regarding reclamation of agricultural land without the approval from the authority concerned, which amounts to violation of the provisions of the Manipur Conservation of Paddy Land and Wetland Act, 2014, have been received by the Office of the Imphal East DC, it stated.

It has also learnt that various encroachments over state land, along riverbanks and unauthorised existing structures along highways, state roads and public drains are still continuing despite receiving numerous warnings, it mentioned.

The orders are issued in exercise of the powers conferred by the Manipur Conservation of Paddy Land and Wetland Act, 2014 and Manipur Public Premises (Eviction of Unauthorised Occupants) Act, 1978, it added.
