A drug peddler from Assam was arrested in a border town of Manipur, while 30 soap cases containing suspected brown sugar were seized from his possession by the state police on Sunday, police sources said.
The arrested person has been identified as one Rahul Saikia, 38, son of Khireswar Saikia from Dangdhara Gaon, Police Station-Titabar and District-Jorhat, Assam.
A police statement stated that Rahul was arrested by a team of Senapati district police while conducting mobile frisking and checking under War on Drugs 2.0 near Martyr’s Park around 2 km south of Mao Police Station around 5.30 am.
During the police action, one Renault KWID car gray in colour, bearing registration number AS03W-9145 was signaled to stop for checking, it stated.
On checking, 30 soap cases containing the suspected brown sugar were found concealed under the front dashboard of the car. The DC, Senapati has been intimated and a request was made to depute a magistrate, accordingly ADM, Senapati, PP Ronald was deputed for doing the necessary procedure, it mentioned.
In presence of the executive magistrate, Rahul (driver of Renault KWID) took out the suspected brown sugar soap cases.
The soap cases were weighed in presence of the Executive Magistrate and they weighed 346.43 gm (without the weight of the soap case).
The detained driver and the seized items were handed over to MAO-Police Station for further investigation.A regular FIR case under FIR No. 4(8)2023 Mao-PS u/s 21(c)/60(3) ND & PS has been registered for further investigation.
