A medical officer of the Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS), Imphal has been suspended for allegedly assaulting a staff nurse posted in the Covid Ward No 3 of JNIMS Hospital.
The accused doctor has been identified as one Dr Pangambarn Bohnson, who was appointed on a daily honorarium basis in the institute, according to the suspension order issued by JNIMS director Th Bhimo.
The doctor was suspended on Thursday following a complaint lodged by the Trained Nurses' Association JNIMS to the director of JNIMS, demanding termination of the doctor from his medical officer post following the alleged assault on one of its staff nurses on Wednesday.
The order mentioned that during the suspension period, Bohnson should not leave his headquarter Imphal without obtaining previous permission of the JNIMS authority.
"Bohnson shall also continue to be under the administrative control of JNIMS and should abide by conduct rules and he shall not be entitled to any emoluments during the duration of suspension," it added.
Terming the assault on the staff nurse a “dishonour” to the nursing community, the complaint stated that the incident has created a lot of tension among the nurses.
It warned that the nursing community will cease their duties and lodged an FIR against the doctor if he is not terminated from his post.
