The Manipur Loumi Lup, a farmers' organisation, noted the construction of new bunkers in the peripheral areas, and urged the authorities concerned to destroy the newly set up bunkers to enable farmers to freely carry out farming activities.
Many Meitei-owned agricultural lands in areas adjoining Imphal West, Imphal East, Bishnupur and Kakching districts aside from Churachandpur and Kangpokpi districts are reportedly surrounded by armed militants, making it impossible for the people to carry out farming activities, despite the state’s government move to provide security to farmers, stated a release on Monday.
It also appealed to carry out widespread combing operations using combined forces to drive out armed militants from around Meitei villages. The bunkers set up by the Meitei village volunteers in the areas can be destroyed when proof of destroying the militant-occupied bunkers is given, it stated.
It stated that doing so will facilitate restoring normalcy as well as enable the farmers to carry out farming activities without fear and tension.
The lup further appealed to the authorities concerned to ensure easy availability of fertilizers to the farmers seeking refuge at various relief camps.
