The proscribed umbrella organisation Coordination Committee (CorCom) on Sunday announced to boycott Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Manipur to campaign for the BJP on Tuesday by imposing a total shutdown in the state with effect from 1 am of Tuesday till the PM leaves the state.

Medical related services, fire services and other emergency services will be exempted from the total shutdown, said a release issued by the publicity committee of CorCom.

It stated that the Prime Minister is not coming to give independence to Manipur and bring progress for the people which every citizen of an independent nation deserves. He is coming to execute the usual agenda of extending the colonial rule of India by enslaving the people and it is a mere drama to showcase that the people of Manipur are living independently in independent India by exercising their rights, it said. Such is an act to successfully conduct the force election which has been conducting since the past many years, it added.

Modi is not the first Prime Minister to carry out such an agenda. Such an agenda was carried out by the former prime ministers of different political parties and other leaders of various political parties, it added.

The ensuing election is not going to deliver the long pending demand of an independent Manipur, the release said, adding that the government formed under the Indian Constitution only adds challenges to the integrity of Manipur and suffering to its people.

It also pointed out that the election offices opened by the candidates to lure the voters have become a hotspot for uses of abusive substances. Many youths, who are the future generation, have been drowning in the ocean of intoxicants and even some youth who never tried intoxicants in their life have also started using it, it stated. The candidates are supplying intoxicants knowingly or pretending to not know that it will affect the life of the youths, just for gaining vote banks, it added.

As all candidates are power hungry, they instigated their workers to conduct various crimes for the sake of getting votes, however it is the workers and the common people who will continue to live with past enmity and grudges among themselves even after the election, the release mentioned.

Political leaders of Manipur have arranged all facilities by using their best will to satisfy the prime minister, causing inconveniences to the people of Manipur and breaking the Covid safety protocols, it said.

It is not right to welcome the prime minister who is visiting Manipur to destroy its integrity, the release said, appealing to the general public to support the boycott imposed by CorCom.
