Consultation programme for people with disabilities held in Imphal

Every PWD must ensure their rights given by the Indian Constitution are protected.

To ensure that the physically abled persons get their fundamental rights, a one-day state-level Disabled Peoples’ Organisation (DPO) Consultation Programme was held on Saturday at Manipur Press Club in Imphal.

It was organised under the theme “On inclusion of women with disabilities in development plans and collection of secondary data on gaps and action plans of inclusion gendered disability in local governance development plans,” jointly by the State Platform of Disabled Peoples’ Organisation Manipur (SPDPO); All Tribal Disable Union Manipur and Equitable Catalyst Society (ECS).

Speaking on the occasion president of SPDPO Md Yunis Khan stressed the need to thoroughly know the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act by every differently abled persons to ensure that their rights given by the Indian Constitution are protected.

Many beneficiary schemes are being provided specially for the differently abled persons, he said, calling on all the PWDs to take the opportunity of such schemes and for moving towards an egalitarian society.

The programme was also attended by social activist Kiran Yendrembam; member of State Women Commission Chonngsin Koireng and director of ECS Neplian as presidium members.
