People of Thangmeiband, Meitei Langol and Takyel Khongbal of Imphal West district have demanded the construction of a ring road in non-congested areas outside the Imphal town.
While conducting the second day of public hearing at Tharon community hall for the implementation of Imphal Ring Road Project under the funding of Asian Development Bank (ADB), people of the villages opposed implementation of Imphal ring road project at congested areas.
The second day of public hearing was organised by the Social Impact Assessment (SIA) unit formed under the Directorate of Environment and Climate Change.
During the hearing, some landowners expressed their support for the project while others disagreed.
A councillor of Imphal Municipality Council (IMC), Ward Number 4, Gaidon Gangmei rejected the project, claiming that the project has no long term. When the ring road is constructed, numbers of heavy loads will come crossing the Assembly, Secretariat and High Court which will cause inconvenience. Therefore, he demanded the construction of a ring road depending on the 1994 map and not on the 2004 map.
From the expert side, O Biren (technical expert of SIA team) said that public hearing is not the last and final decision and that the report submitted from the SIA team will be further discussed. So, he urged the filled-up form, which was given to affected villagers, to be analyzed qualitatively and quantitatively.which acts as a bridge between the landowners and the government. The opinion of the affected landowners will be submitted to the state government in the form of recommendation, he added. He urged people to submit the list of socially affected land of school, hospital or anything that was used socially.
Brajakumar further urged to clarify and complete the process of patta.
