Congress candidate Alfred tests the water in Churachandpur district

Indian National Congress (INC) party's candidate for Outer Manipur constituency Alfred Kanngam Arthur on Tuesday visited Churachandpur to directly assess his prospects in the ensuing Lok Sabha election

The Indian National Congress (INC) party's candidate for Outer Manipur constituency Alfred Kanngam Arthur on Tuesday visited Churachandpur to directly assess his prospects in the ensuing Lok Sabha election, in the backdrop of the simmering ethnic crisis in Manipur.

He was accompanied by MPCC working president Victor Keishing along with star campaigner and MPCC working president T Manga Vaiphei and Churachandpur DCC president Lalnghet Hmar.

They met with the different leaders of Churachandpur district during the visit.

The closed-door meeting with the district and block level Congress workers Meeting was held at T Manga Vaiphei' residence at red-cross road with the attendance of Alfred Kanngam Arthur, Victor Keishing, along with secretary MPCC Mangkholien Gangte, Member-MPCC Mangchinkhup, all district and block level Congress workers.

This was the first event of campaign carried out in Churachandpur and Pherzawl district by any candidate of the Outer Manipur Parliamentary Constituency in connection with the election which will be held on the April 19 and 26 in a two-phase arrangement.

Speaking at the Congress workers meeting, Alfred Kanngam Arthur appealed to the gathering of the Congress District workers “to stand up for our rights and never compromise with our due share as enshrined and guaranteed by the Constitution of India.”

The people should be united to fight against the rightful shares in all spheres, he further said, adding he will sincerely work for all sections of the society.

Victor Keishing also told the Congress workers that secularism in the democracy should be protected by the right thinking people. He urged all congress workers to work harder to secure the trust of the people. The state has been reeling under a deep crisis since the past 11 months and the state government is to be blamed, he said.

Alfred Kanngam Arthur along with party workers also visited KKL Relief camp at Sangai University, Kaparang Churachandpur district where he interacted with relief camps inmates and heard their grievances.
