The Committee on Self Protection has called for a joint declaration by the 50 MLAs of Manipur, for protecting Manipur from illegal immigrants and restoration of peace over relief materials distribution.

Addressing the media at the Manipur Press Club in Imphal, committee convenor T Lenin Luwang expressed disappointment that the 50 MLAs have not taken a firm stance against the declaration made by 10 MLAs advocating for a separate administration.

He emphasised that it is crucial for the 50 MLAs to visit the national capital and press the leaders to take action in safeguarding Manipur from any form of disintegration and for restoration of normalcy.

The convenor also strongly condemned the steps taken by the central government, which appear to favour illegal immigrants over the indigenous people of Manipur.

He stated that the people of Manipur will not allow the 10 Kuki MLAs who are attempting to disintegrate the state, to return to Manipur.

The committee called on all stakeholders and leaders to join them in traveling to the national capital to present a clear picture of the current issues to central leaders, as well as national and international media.

During the press conference, a two-minute silence was observed as a sign of solidarity with those who have sacrificed their lives in defense of Manipur's integrity during this ongoing crisis.

The committee is comprised of civil bodies based in Wangkhei Ayangpali, Imphal East.
