Unified Peace Coordinating Committee, Kumbi on Wednesday expressed discontentment with Raj Medicity’s alleged failure to uphold its assurance to mete out free medical treatment to those injured in the ongoing conflict.

The committee informed that one Yumnam Manisang from Ithai Khunou Awang Leikai was undergoing treatment at Raj Medicity Hospital for a leg injury that she sustained in the recent mass protest near the Torbung area against the mass burial.

Much to the family’s surprise a few days after treatment, Manisang’s family were informed to ready Rs 50,000 for a much-needed leg surgery, the committee added. The committee questioned what were the hospital’s specific regulations for the treatment of conflict casualties.

Speaking to the media at Manipur Press Club, Majorkhul, the coordinating committee secretary Wahengbam Opendro highlighted that Manisang sustained a leg injury during the recent mass protest against the Torbung Bangla mass burial.

“Her leg was injured by a stray rubber bullet fired by Central paramilitary forces to disperse the mob. She was brought to Raj Medicity for proper medical attention but after a few days of treatment, the patient’s family was informed to ready Rs 50,000 for an urgent leg surgery,” he said.

He recalled that Raj Medicity announced to deliver free medical treatment to casualties of the ongoing conflict and maintained that the hospital’s notification to ready certain sums of money had confused the family members.

“If we are not mistaken the hospital authority had made the announcement on local media platforms but we are taken aback by their notification,” he said.

He demanded the hospital authority to clarify the specific regulations for the treatment of conflict casualties and further informed that Manisang had since shifted to RIMS hospital for leg surgery.

He expressed gratitude to Kumbi MLA, Transport and Drivers Council Manipur and RIMS authority for extending necessary aid.

Members of the Ithai Modern Civilisation Club, Ithai Khunou and Ithai Khunou Meira Paibi Lup were also present at the press meet.
