CM Biren extends Mera Hou Chongba greetings

Manipur CM N Biren Singh wished that the tradition of sharing and exchanging gifts on Mera Hou Chongba would serve to rebuild the bonds among different communities.

Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Friday extended wishes to the people of the state on the auspicious occasion of Mera Hou Chongba 2023.

The chief minister, in his message, stated that ‘Mera Hou Chongba’, which falls on the full-moon day of the month of Mera in the Manipuri lunar calendar, is celebrated to foster and promote a more harmonious, peaceful and prosperous society, adding that the festival holds much significance today.

“Today, our state is witnessing a tough phase, with vested interest groups attempting to incite feelings of ill-will and enmity amongst various communities”, the CM lamented. He asserted that many have suffered irreparable losses in this conflict and no amount of compensation can console these losses.

He maintained that “it is now time to forgive and forget all past misdeeds and reconcile so that we can all go back to the times of peaceful co-existence”. He wished that the tradition of sharing and exchanging gifts on this day would serve to rebuild the bonds among different communities.

The CM further called upon all to pray that the strength of humanity and our capacity to forgive, open for us, a new chapter for the state.
