“The Minor Industrial Estate (MIE) plywood factories and sawmills have degraded the condition of the road and the pollutants emitted from the factories and the mills have severely affected the health of the environment and the local people,” residents of Yairipok Khoirom Mathak Leikai in Thoubal district said.

The residents held a protest and public rally, which was organised by the JAC Against the Establishing of the Khoirom MIE in Residential Area on Sunday.

The protesters demanded the government to close down the MIE plywood factories and sawmills operating in the locality, or relocate them elsewhere.
