Civil bodies demand severe punishment for Mark T Haokip

As many as 10 civil bodies on Friday demanded severe punishment for Mark Thangmang Haokip for allegedly describing freedom fighter Rani Gaidinliu as a criminal.

As many as 10 civil bodies on Friday demanded severe punishment for Mark Thangmang Haokip for allegedly describing freedom fighter Rani Gaidinliu as a criminal. Justifying its demand, the civil bodies also expressed their concern that Mark T Haokip may repeat the same towards other freedom fighters of Manipur, including Hijam Irabot and Bir Tikendrajit.

The civil bodies that raised the demands are International Peace and Social Advancement (IPSA); The All-Club Organisation Association and Meira Paibi Lup (ACOAM-Lup); People’s Action for National Democratic Movement (PANDM); Indigenous People’s Association of Kangleipak (IPAK); KANGLAMEI; Kabui Mothers’ Association (KAMA); Kanglei Ima Lup (KIL); Chanura Lamchinglel Kangleipak (CLK); Zeliangrong Union (ZU).

General secretary of KAMA, Ranjita Golmei, told reporters at its office located at Paona Bazar on Friday said, “Mark does not have any knowledge of Manipur history for he is not a Manipuri”.

Golmei on behalf of the civil bodies lauded Chief Minister N Biren Singh for taking swift action.

She said such a person should be given the harshest punishment, “If the government let him free then in future, he could also criticise Hijam Irabot and Bir Tikendrajit as criminal”, added Golmei.

The KAMA general secretary warned that the civil bodies would be compelled to take different forms of agitation if the government fails to take befitting action against Mark.
