The Joint Action Committee against the Death of (L) S Ginthianlal Vaiphei that was formed in connection with an alleged hit-and-run incident in Churachandpur temporarily put on hold its planned indefinite general strike after reaching an agreement with the government on Thursday.
The JAC along with civil bodies and student organisations of the district and family members of the deceased met the MLA of Henglep assembly constituency Letzamang Haokip on Thursday night at Imphal and came to an agreement.
S Ginthianlal Vaiphei succumbed to his injuries following an alleged hit-and-run incident which occurred at Torbung Village in Churachandpur district on January 16.
As per sources, the government of Manipur agreed to provide Ex-gratia to the victim's Family. The government and the law enforcement agencies will ensure that the culprits are book and Justice is delivered, sources said.
The JAC, putting its trust in the government's assurance, decided to put the indefinite general strike, called from the morning of January 21 on hold for the time being.
However, if the law enforcement agencies failed to book the culprit, agitations might resume at any time, it stated. The JAC also expressed their sincere gratitude to Henglep MLA Letzamang Haokip and MLA of Churachandpur assembly constituency LM Khaute for their timely intervention and efforts to bring justice to (L) Ginthianlal Vaiphei.
Furthermore, the JAC also expressed their gratitude to all the civil bodies for their efforts and support. It also appealed to them for their continued support until the culprit(s) are caught and Justice is ensured.
