After a brief halt during the festive session, the Traffic Control Police, Churachandpur on Wednesday resumed its ‘helmet drive’ during which challans were issued to defaulters.
As many as 83 rule breakers were given treasury receipts leading to a total fine of Rs 42,000 from the rule violators. It may be mentioned that a total of 5,239 TR- 5 Challans were issued with a fine collection of Rs 19, 67,000 by Traffic Control Police, Churachandpur last year.
OC of Traffic Control Police, Churachandpur inspector James Vaiphei said that with the coming of the festive season, they had relaxed their drives. But with rampant violations of rules by drivers, they decided to resume the active drive which is important for the safety of the two wheeler drivers, he said. As the assembly election is also approaching, the need to impose rules is required, he further said, adding that the drives will continue and urged all to comply with the law and rules.
In the meantime, the Churachandpur police, including Traffic Control Police on Wednesday opened a counter for COVID-19 vaccination, providing boosting doses at the SP Guest house, Tuibong. As directed by the government, booster doses were administered under strict supervision of additional SP(op) Dishorjit Singh.
