Despite the suspension of the 12-hour shutdown imposed in the Chingmeirong area, Imphal East, the locality on Friday witnessed a deserted look as all shops and establishments, including petrol pumps remained closed as a part of showing solidarity against the demolition of local club building.
The shutdown jointly called by the Chingmeirong Youth Welfare Association (CYWA), Chingmeirong Mamang Awang Leikai Shinglup (CMALS) and Chingmeirong Apunba Meira Paibi against the demolishing the club building in the wee hour on Wednesday was lifted in view of Good Friday and upcoming Cheiraoba festival.
Meanwhile, the district magistrate of Imphal East had imposed 144 CrPC in the surrounding area of Chingmeirong restricting assembling of five or more persons and also carrying of weapons or objects which can be used as offensive weapons.
Moreover, as a preventive measure from any untoward incident, security personnel were seen deployed in every nook and corner of the locality.
