Cherry Blossom Mao Festival: Japanese expertise needed to boost development in Manipur, says CM Biren

Manipur Chief Minister N Biren on Tuesday inaugurated the "Virtual Cherry Blossom Mao Festival, 2021" and said that the state needs Japanese expertise and advice to bring infrastructural development in the state.

Biren also expressed the need for more cultural exchange programme between Manipur and Japan so as to promote cultural tourism. There are many similarities between Manipur and Japan in terms of culture, tradition and others, he said, adding this could be explored through such festivals.

He also mentioned that organising webinars like "Study in Japan" during the festival will help in human resource development and support the youths towards guiding them for higher education in Japan.

The chief minister expressed his gratitude to the organiser committee of the festival, ICCR regional office, Tourism department for organising the programme and give special thanks to Ambassador of Japan to India Satoshi Suzuki for attending the programme.

Tourism Minister O Lukhoi in his speech During his speech, Minister for Tourism stated that the festival gave an opportunity to showcase the potential of Mao as a unique tourist destination of Manipur and to showcase its rich cultural and natural heritage.

He also mentioned that the festival also provides an opportunity to experience the rich cultural heritage, folk dances, music and natural beauty of Mao.

The function was also attended by chairman of Tourism Corporation of Manipur Limited Md Asabuddin and director general of Indian Council for Cultural Relations Dinesh K Patnaik.
