The case initially was registered at Imphal East’s Lamlai police station but was later transferred to the CBI upon request from the Manipur government.

According to reports, it is believed that around noon on July 15, 2023, a mob numbering approximately 100 people comprising armed miscreants forcibly held captive and abducted the female victim near Sawombung Gate. Subsequently, her lifeless body was discovered later that same day.
