Burning Paddy Stacks: Loumi Lup urges action

Paddy stacks kept for threshing at the house of one Ningthoujam Dinesh Singh from Keirao Bitra Makha Leikai were reduced to ashes after unknown miscreants set it on fire in the wee hours on Tuesday, stated a release.

Manipur Loumi Lup on Wednesday vehemently condemned the burning of paddy stacks by miscreants at Keirao Bitra in Imphal East on Tuesday and demanded stringent actions against those involved.

Paddy stacks kept for threshing at the house of one Ningthoujam Dinesh Singh from Keirao Bitra Makha Leikai were reduced to ashes after unknown miscreants set it on fire in the wee hours on Tuesday, stated a release.

The lup expressed discontentment that the nefarious act was carried out at such a tough time where farmers of the state are unable to carry out farming activities owing to insufficient rainfall above the prevailing conflict in the state, it said.

It reiterated its demand to book the culprits involved and take stern action against them so that such actions are not repeated in the future. It lamented that people are already reeling under apprehensions of famine in the state as farmers are unable to sow paddy crops timely due to the ongoing communal crisis.

It also mentioned the incident which occurred at Tronglaobi Makha Leikai Loukol in Moirang constituency on October 22, where miscreants sprayed herbicide on a paddyfield causing large-scale damage to the crops.
