Tengnoupal Battalion under the aegis of HQ IGAR (South) foiled a cross-border smuggling of Brown Sugar at Khudengthabi village, Tengnoupal on Saturday, and seized brown sugar worth Rs 6.88 crore total in two separate incidents, sources said.
Based on a tipoff, a team was launched in Khudengthabi village to prevent smuggling of contraband items, stated a release issued IGAR (South) on Sunday.
During the operation, 525 grams of brown sugar worth Rs 1.05 crore packed in 12 packets were recovered, it mentioned. The recovered drugs were handed over to Moreh Police for further legal proceedings, it added.
Meanwhile, Modi Battalion of Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ IGAR (South) apprehended one individual with 2.918 kg brown sugar worth Rs 5.83 crore on Friday.
Based on specific inputs, troops of Modi Battalion along with a team of Tengnoupal Police Station launched a Mobile Vehicle Check Post in Larong Khunao village, Tengnoupal district, which led to the seizure of 2.918 kg of brown sugar in 70 soap cases and apprehension of one person, it stated. The drugs were hidden in the fuel tank of Eeco car No TEMP A 92553, it mentioned.
The apprehended individual along with brown sugar and vehicle were handed over to Tengnoupal Police Station for further legal action, it added.
