Two drug smugglers have been arrested and 114.60 grams of suspected brown sugar seized from their posessions in two separate incidents in Thoubal district, Manipur by a team of Thoubal district commandos, sources said.
The police said the arrested persons were identified as one Md Amir Khan, 33, son of late Md Abdul Karim of Leihaokhong, Lilong, Thoubal district and one Md Maneruddin, 42, son of late Alimuddin of Lilong Lou Manga, Thoubal district.
Police reported that acting on information, the district commando team conducted frisking and checking at Shamurou Awang Leikai near Ema Panthoibi Community Hall, Imphal West. Amir was detained at around 5:30 pm on Thursday.
During spot interrogation, Amir disclosed that he was going to purchase and sell contraband drugs i.e., brown sugar from one Md Maneruddin who further bought from one Lakimuddin, 35, from Lilong Turel Ahanbi.
In the follow-up action, 10 soap cases containing suspected brown sugar weighing 114.60 grams (approx.) without the weight of soap cases were seized from the possession of Maneruddin at around 7 pm the same day from Lilong Turel Ahanbi in front of Darul-ul-lum Madarsa.
Further, the commando team conducted a search operation at the house of Md Lakimuddin with local club representatives but no one was found in the house. However, the commando team detected and seized 180 black paper sheets suspected to be used for producing fake currency notes during the operation.
A black Bajaj Pulsar 150 without registration number; blue Honda Activa bearing registration MN06SG -0979; two mobile handsets; two wallets; two Aadhaar cards: two PAN cards; one driving licence and one voter ID card were seized from the possession of the detainees.
Later, Amir and Maneruddin were arrested. The arrested persons along with the seizures were handed over to Wangoi Police Station for further action.
