A powerful bomb - an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) was found planted near a private rehabilitation centre along the road connecting Thoubal Okram to Thoubal Khunou under Thoubal police station on Thursday.
According to police, pedestrians found the IED near the foot of an electric post beyond the walls of a rehabilitation centre, Real Recover Home, around 5 am. After the police were informed, a combined force of Thoubal commando and a team of Assam Rifles from Lilong arrived at the site and safely detonated the IED around 6.40 am, it stated.
“Although the miscreants behind the incident cannot be identified, the authorities suspects the proscribed group Kangleipak Communist Party, People's War Group (Marxist Centre) to be behind the incident as the proscribed group on October 24 had issued a notice to boycott all private rehab centres in the state indefinitely,” it stated. It is not clear if the IED was targeted at the rehab centre or the security forces, it added.
