General secretary of ATSUM, SR Andria Anal said that in their month-long hills tour, they had witnessed many shortcomings in the hills particularly in the sectors of health, education, ADC, land and forest. He continued that Churachandpur district has five higher secondary schools run by the government but only three schools are functioning. He also pointed out the lack of compliance to the ‘Right to Education Act’ which grants free school uniform, mid-day meal, and free textbooks.

Mentioning the health sector, Andria Anal said that the condition in Churachandpur is a complete failure. The district has 11 primary health centres with no staff and proper buildings which often bring several hardships to the public, even leading to many pregnancy deaths. Moreover, the Churachandpur district hospital which will soon be upgraded to medical college has no sufficient specialists, staff, and machinery, he added.
