The All Tribal Students' Union Manipur (ATSUM) on Sunday strongly condemned the alleged life attempt on Phungyar AC NPF candidate K Leishiyo, who is also chairman of Hill Area Committee (HAC).
The tribal student apex body stated that a bomb was planted on the main road between Nambashi Khullen and Nambashi Khunou, where the candidate was to return after casting his vote on Saturday.
The HAC chairman, however, had a narrow escape of the bomb attack threat as he took a detour of the road through a shortcut at around 9 am. The bomb threat would have otherwise posed a grave threat to the life of the candidate, it added.
The ATSUM termed the attempt on the life of Leishiyo, who is a strong proponent of the ADC Bill 2021, as cowardly and sinister and a direct affront to the interest of the tribal people of the state.
The student body also said that whosoever is behind the life attempt of the HAC chairman must understand that their dastardly act will never be forgiven by the tribal people.
It further said that the government must initiate an inquiry and arrest the culprits to prevent any such attempt upon the HAC chairman in the future.
