The IGAR (South) and other battalions of AR across Manipur on Monday celebrated the National Unity Day commemorating the 147th Birth Anniversary of Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel, stated a release issued by IGAR (South) on Monday.
In IGAR (South) Mantripukhri Garrison, a Unity Pledge bike rally and Run for Unity for the troops, families and children of AR was organised as a part of the celebration, it stated.
It stated that the events were witnessed by enthusiastic participation of 500 children, families and troops. It was conducted in presence of Lt Gen PC Nair and major general Rajan Sharawa, it added.
Sardar Patel, who is also known as ‘Loh purush’ (Iron Man) of India, not only contributed immensely in the independence struggle, but also played a major role in unification of the nation, it mentioned.
Meanwhile, the Border Security Force (BSF) under the aegis of SHQ BSF CI (Ops) Manipur Koirengei, Imphal on Monday observed ‘Rashtriya Ekta Diwas (National Unity Day)’ commemorating the birth anniversary of the first Union Home minister Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, stated a release.
Sardar Patel who got the title ‘Iron Man of India' was instrumental in uniting the country post independence of India, it mentioned.
It said, as a part of the observance a cleanliness drive was carried out at BSF Koirengei campus besides flagged off a cycle rally by DIG SHQ CI (Ops) Manipur Dinesh Singh Rawat in which Comdt of 29 Bn BSF Sonam Chhering along with troops of SHQ BSF and 29 Bn BSF attended.
A ‘Run for Unity’ programme was also held where students and teachers of Carmel Jyoti (Orphanage Home) and Divine School, Luwangsangbam, Imphal, Ex-Servicemen and BSF family members participated, it stated. Moreover, a ‘Chain of Unity’ program was also organised at the BSF Campus Koirengei, it added.
