Appeal for Shyamjai’s release

The arrest of Kangleipakki Meira’s chief editor Wangkhemcha Shyamjai on charges of publishing false reports without giving him a chance to clarify himself is extremely unfortunate, stated a joint release issued by AMWJU and EGM.

The All Manipur Working Journalists’ Union (AMWJU) and the Editors’ Guild Manipur (EGM) on Saturday appealed to the authorities concerned for the release of former AMWJU president and news editor Wangkhemcha Shyamjai, while strongly condemning his arrest.  

The arrest of Kangleipakki Meira’s chief editor Wangkhemcha Shyamjai on charges of publishing false reports without giving him a chance to clarify himself is extremely unfortunate, stated a joint release issued by AMWJU and EGM.

“To err is human and he should be given a chance to clarify even if he had indeed published a false report. We appeal for his release at the earliest,” it stated.   

It further appealed to the media fraternity to exercise extreme caution while giving coverage and gathering reports during the prevailing unrest, and publish only the reports which are selected and fact-checked by the editors.
