The inaugural function of Anti-Malaria Month, 2022 was held on Thursday at Synod Hall IB Road, Churachandpur, organised by the State Health Society in collaboration with the national centre for Vector Borne Disease Control Manipur and District Malaria Office, Churachandpur.
The function was graced as chief guest by additional DC Yumnam Nelson, senior regional director of RoH & F/W Dr LA Singh and others dignitaries from the district.
On the occasion, the chief guest said that the district was chosen for the first inauguration of the month-long drive. He said that the purpose of the Anti-Malaria Month was to enhance public awareness and to the stakeholders, including CSOs, so as to eradicate the source of Malaria. Malaria detection in the district was minimal but one has to be on guard in this time of monsoon season as floods can randomly occur and even give rise to mosquitoes, the additional DC said.
DMO Liangoumuan called for cooperation from all in the fight against Malaria admitting that as recently as three weeks back symptoms of malaria were detected but were treated by the district malaria office.
The DMO also handed out best performing Block award to Singngat Block, best performing Supervision award to Robert Pauzalal of Sinzawl PHC and best Microscopist to Tingkhonei from Henglep PHC.
The officials and doctors, who attended the programme, stressed on the need for early detection and treatment so as to eradicate Malaria. Dr LA Singh said that malaria has led to many deaths since time immemorial saying that under PM Modi's scheme, it was minimised to a certain level since 2017. With the PM's efforts, the government plans to completely eradicate the disease by 2030, Singh said.
