Manipur Governor La Ganesan and Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Thursday extended greetings to the people of the state on the occasion of Anant Chaturdashi which falls on September 9.
In his message, Ganesan stated that Anant Chaturdashi is a festival celebrated among the Jain and Hindu communities across the world on the 14th day of the fortnight of Shukla Paksha of the Bhado month.
“Let this year’s Anant Chaturdashi be celebrated with pomp and gaiety with vegetarian food, and seek forgiveness from the elders for our mistakes,” he added.
Let the attainment of nirvana of Lord Vasupujya, the 12th Tirthankara be a reminder for us to live a life free from material attachment, self-realization and meditation to bring love and compassion, the governor continued.
Conveying his greetings, CM N Biren extended greetings and best wishes to the people of Manipur especially the Jain community on the occasion of Anant Chaturdashi, which is observed as ‘Vegetarian Day’.
“Lord Mahavira, the founder of Jainism led an austere life of Ahimsa and had a firm belief that no harm should be caused to any living creature. As such, his followers are advocates of vegetarianism who follow the dietary customs of self-control and purity of the mind and spirit,” he added.
The CM highlighted the spiritual, mental and health benefits of vegetarianism, mentioning that more and more people are turning to vegetarian diets in modern society.
