The All Manipur Women's Voluntary Association (AMWVA) observed its 32th foundation day at Chandrakirti Auditorium on Sunday.
Addressing the media during the programme, AMWVA president, Y Kunjarani said that development of a society requires a good status of women and the association has been tirelessly working to improve the socio-economic conditions of women.
She said that since the inception of the association, they have been actively working for the welfare of the women's community. To improve the economic condition of the women, many business units have been set up.
The association got involved in a movement against repeal of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) 1958. Violation of rights and crime against women under the shadow of this act is one of the important issues in the state, she added.
Kunjarani said that society should never look down on women as a weaker section of the society. The state will never be progressed until and unless women are empowered. To achieve this, the association has been putting all possible effort. But at the same time, support and cooperation from the society is also much necessary to get the goal of the association.
The programme was attended by Thambal Marik College principal, Dr Th Binarani Devi and Poirei Leimarol Meira Paibi Apunba Manipur president, L Memchoubi as chief guest and guest of honour respectively.
