The All Manipur Working Journalist Union (AMWJU), Editors' Guild Manipur (EGM) and the Manipur Hill Journalist Union (MHJU) on Wednesday urged all editors and working journalists to remain highly vigilant and see that media reporting do not fuel the public unrest further, but rather help in bringing peace and solution.

"A joint meeting of AMWJU, EGM and MHJU takes serious note of various social media handles, unregistered news outlets making and releasing news which are ethically incorrect and likely to fuel further public unrest," a joint release stated.

Several other individuals functioning under the ‘press banner’ are also uploading unedited and sensitive footages that are likely to cause social strife, it stated.

The three media organisations further urged the authorities concerned to look into the issue before irreparable damage is done, it mentioned.

The AMWJU, EGM and MHJU expressed concern at individuals and organisations taking unilateral actions against media houses and persons registered or not for mistakes in reporting.

“We urge all to use legal and lawful approaches to address the issue rather than violence and intimidation,” it added.
