The All Manipur Music Association (AMMA) is all set to launch a campaign called ‘Anti-drug campaign through music” from May with an objective to awaken every walk of life by creating massive awareness about long term irreparable damage caused by drug menace in the society.
During a press conference at the Manipur Press Club on Tuesday, AMMA Secretary A Rabindra Singh said that drug menace has become an ever-growing concern in the state of Manipur. The state government had launched “War on Drug” to combat this problem which is a serious threat to society, however, the problem of drug abuse is mounting each day as many people have become drug addicts regardless of their gender or marital statuses, Rabindra added.
With a concern to save the society from this scenario and the need for collective effort from every section of the society, AMMA decided to launch the said campaign, Rabindra said, informing that the campaign will be carried out in almost all the places of Manipur by holding public meeting where experts will elaborate about impact of drug addiction followed by presentation of songs and music based on drug issue. He also appealed to the people of the state to extend their support and cooperation to make the campaign a grand success.
Rabindra said that the trend of drug menace in the state is unfortunate. Various types of synthetic drugs are easily available in the state and are being manufactured even within the state apart from importing it from neighbouring country Myanmar, he said. This has resulted in many youths becoming drug dependents from a tender age, he expressed.
The future of the state would be at risk if it continues to go in this flow, he expressed while sharing his views that the government alone won’t be able to solve the drug problem as it has become chronic in the state. There is a need for collective effort from every section of society to uproot this issue, the AMMA secretary said.
