Manipur Democratic Alliance (MDA) convenor M Tombi, who is also president of state Shiv Sena, said that organising reception programme by state BJP for more than three-four intending candidates that already has BJP MLA should be avoided as it could be one of the reasons to invite pre-poll violence.
Tombi was speaking to media during a press conference held at its office located at Babupara, Imphal on Tuesday. He said that in most of the assembly constituencies of the state, more than three intending candidates are seeking BJP tickets for the upcoming state legislative assembly election. However, state BJP organised reception programme for each and every intending candidate even for the assembly constituency that already has BJP sitting MLA.
In some assembly constituency, the intending candidates may support each other after the announcement of party tickets however, it could be one of the main reason for inviting poll violence, said Tombi.
Any social worker or a politician can serve the society without participating in the election but some of the politicians are considering election as a business and it should be avoided, he added.
He further said, MDA and state Shiv Sena strongly condemned the Samurou pre-poll violence incident where two persons were killed by some unknown miscreants. The culprits or the mastermind behind such incident should be given a death sentence publicly in a public ground in order to avoid similar incident in the near future, said Tombi.
MDA and State Shiv Sena appealed to stop encouraging gun culture, using muscle and money power in relation with election as it could only lead to an unwanted incident. He also said MDA and State Shiv Sena appealed the authority concerned to provide schedule tribe status or hill area status to the entire areas of the state. If the people are given an equal status irrespective of hills and valleys then complaints like Amra Bangali rose at Supreme Court could be easily defended.
The party fully support the movement of schedule tribe demand committee, said Tombi.
